Good morning.The state Department of Environmental Conservation has officially opened a forty-five-day public comment window regarding a new toxic soil cleanup plan at the Miller Hill Yard in Fremont. The eight-acre state route twenty-one property was previously designated a brownfield following the historical discovery of nearly five hundred buried industrial paint drums from the nineteen-seventies. The state's proposed remediation strategy includes full excavation of remaining groundwater contaminants alongside the permanent recording of an environmental easement.In Hornell, seventy-nine-year-old Vietnam veteran Herman Bradford has officially received his high school diploma nearly sixty years after he was drafted. Bradford left school early to serve a combined twenty-two years in the United States Army and Navy. Family and local veterans affairs representatives surprised Bradford with the long-awaited degree during the annual Canisteo-Greenwood high school commencement exercises through New York’s Operation Recognition program.And thirty-one-year-old Corning resident Dominick Bova faces up to nine years in state prison after pleading guilty to first-degree robbery charges.
